Frontera Tours offer float trips from Austin to the San Marcos river and provide everything you need to float the river. Just BYOB. If you're looking to DIY, here are a few items you'll need.
Here's a list of essential items to bring when floating the river in Texas:
Your tube is the most important item you'll need, unless you wanna float on your belly. Be sure its sturdy and designed for river floating. Nothing is worse than getting out there and you're sinking during the float trip. If you need a tube, most Texas rivers that are designated for river tubing will have a rental company near by.
Sun Protection: The Texas heat is no joke. Bring sunscreen and pack it in your ice cooler. It'll stay cold and feel really refreshing when you re apply. That's one of our Pro tips! Additionally, bring a wide-brimmed hat, sunglasses, and lightweight, breathable clothing to shield yourself from the sun. Don't ruin your vacation with a burn.
Water Shoes and Sandals may look dorky, but are amazing when floating the rivers in Texas. Chaco sandals are our favorite and are great when entering and exiting. You can always put your sandals in the cooler tube during your float trip.
Water and Snacks are crucial out there. Bring an adequate supply of water or other non-alcoholic beverages.
Waterproof Bag and Dry Box are great for keeping your personal belongings dry, but they do sink so keep an eye out for that.
Towels and extra clothes are essentials when floating the river but don't fret if you forget them. You can always air dry.
Trash Bags. Help keep the river clean by bringing a small trash bag to collect your trash and dispose of it properly.
First Aid Kit: It's always a good idea to have a basic first aid kit on hand for any minor injuries or emergencies that may occur.
